Students that are eligible for Title I receive small group instruction daily. Lesson plans are prepared weekly that target each student’s area(s) of need. We work on reading fluency, comprehension, retelling, story mapping, vocabulary, letter sounds, and various other reading skills.
Classroom activities are interactive and fun, and are tailored to the different ways
students learn best. The Title I classroom has an extensive library, and children are
invited to check out books to read for pleasure. We use the Harcourt Journey’s reading curriculum, and it’s supplemented with leveled readers and other books.
Students that come to Title I are able to feel comfortable reading among their peers. The small group setting allows them to work closely with Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Conn, and focus on the area(s) they are struggling in. Title I helps to build their confidence when it comes to reading, and they learn skills that they are able to take back to their classroom and apply.
